Campaign '08: Veepstakes Continue as Conventions Near
The Democratic Convention is just one week away and Barack Obama could announce his choice for running mate any day now. Gov. Tim Kaine and Sen. Evan Bayh are still in the running, with Sen. Joe Biden making a strong finish. For McCain, the names being mentioned include current and former governors Tim Pawlenty and Mitt Romney, as well as the pro-choice Tom Ridge. (8/18/08)

New York's Budget Cut Battle
Gov. Paterson warned of a more than $6 billion shortfall for the state over the next year, and it could reach $20 billion over the next three years. So he is laying down the gauntlet, calling for a billion dollars in cuts to be made immediately to stop the hemmoraging in Albany. (8/15/08)

Honoring Our Vets: New Legislation to End Casket Picture Ban
A new bill has been proposed in the House that would end the ban on photographing soldiers' caskets coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan. If it passes, it would be the first time since Vietnam that the powerful image of the flag-draped caskets would be captured. The military has defended the rule saying it is out of respect for the families, but critics say it was a way to sway public opinion and hide the true cost of war. (8/15/08)
